Minecraft Says no to NFTs because they Create'scarcity And Exclusion'

Minecraft players Minecraft are not allowed to purchase game content, such as worlds persona items, skins and other mods through NFTs.

Minecraft the most played video game ever, will not play with NFTs. They "create a scenario where the haves and have-nots".

In a shrewdly worded blog post on the Minecraft website yesterday (20 July) the developer Mojang Studios said that the inclusion of NFTs would go against the game's principles.

"NFTs and other blockchain technologies create digital ownership that is based on exclusion and scarcity which is not compatible with Minecraft values of inclusion and creativity and playing together," the company wrote.

"The speculation-based pricing of NFTs and the investment mentality associated with them take the focus off the game and encourages profiteering. We believe that this is incompatible with long-term enjoyment and success for our players."

Minecraft has said that the statement was in response to the feedback of members of the community who sought clarifications on the studio's stance regarding NFTs and blockchain.

This means that Minecraft unlike other virtual world games, will not allow blockchain integrations into its client or server applications. Content in the game like worlds, skins, persona items, and other mods can't be created using NFTs.

Mojang which is owned by Microsoft It also said it was concerned about third-party NFTs. Minecraft servers These NFTs aren't reliable and could end up costing customers who buy them. It highlighted scenarios where third-party NFT managers could "disappear without notice" or NFTs could be "sold at fraudulently or artificially inflated prices".

"We recognize that creation within our game is intrinsically valuable and we work to create an environment where these values are acknowledged."

The online gaming community has seen an increase in interest in blockchain technologies such as NFTs which was discussed at Future Human earlier this year.

GameStop and other companies have expressed their confidence in NFTs and launched its own NFT marketplace.

Other companies aren't yet going all-in. EA's CEO stated that blockchain and NFTs could be the future of gaming. However, he recently said: "Right now it's not something we're pushing against."
