According to reports, Turkey's government is investigating claims that Minecraft is too violent.
The game is categorized as suitable for children aged seven and above in the majority of Europe and for children older than 10 in the United States. According to the Haberturk website, Turkey's family and social policy minister, Aysenur Islamic, has requested an investigation into claims that the game encourages aggression. The website states that if the government believes it to be violent, they can ask for a nationwide ban. The decision was prompted by a journalist who revealed to Mrs. Islam that players earn points for killing other characters - including women - and asked what her ministry would be doing to address the issue. The Pan European Game Information group, which assigns ratings to computer games, says Minecraft contains "non-realistic-looking violence towards characters which, although human, are not very detailed".
One journalist from a Turkish gaming magazine says the ministry's concerns aren't true. Kaan Gezer, an Leadergamer journalist, said that she's never witnessed an infant take a sword and assault people due to Minecraft. "Stories like these can are what cause the Turkish video gaming industry to stall or even worsen." Minecraft servers Minecraft is extremely popular among gamers of all different ages. In February 2014, it surpassed its 100 millionth user. Teachers at some schools in the UK have also used it.
