This is my Life, and I'm Sticking to It.

After being awake for more than 48 hours, everyone fell asleep when their heads hit the pillow.



Except for me.



I was suffering from a jarring headache due to fatigue and my eyes were burning from having kept them open for so long. My head throbbed when I finally got to lie in quiet darkness. I wanted to tear my eyes out.



But, melatonin for the win and I never got up until 8:00 the next morning.



Two kids stayed in the same hotel as Grady and two other children stayed in the same hotel as me. After breakfast, and Grady heading off to work The kids and I decided to take a trip to a small pocket of Sydney.



The Sydney Harbor is unique - certain areas have cliffs that are jagged, others quiet with sandy beaches, and some boasting a modern and beautiful skyline.



We were not sure of where exactly we were headed, and not knowing what our energy levels would be for our first day of exploring, we opted to start by visiting small museums that explained the British discovery of Australia and its first use for prisoners.

History, Geography, Social Studies: Check.



Micah insists on solving a puzzle at the museum. Then, we walked across Sydney Harbor Bridge. This iconic bridge is the tallest arch of steel and only has straight steel pieces despite it being a massive arch.



And a side note: Micah is frustrated he can't recreate the bridge in Minecraft. Apparently architecture really does have a mathematical component to it.



After crossing the Bridge We walked around Luna Park, mostly just for a chance to sit down, get an iced drink and ice cream along the water.



When we visited, Australia was in the last days of summer and the beginning of autumn. It was a steady breeze but it was extremely warm , with temperatures reaching the mid-80s.



We hopped on the ferry from Luna Park, crossed the harbor and walked for three blocks back to our hotel.



After seven hours of touring, I mandated "quiet time" in the hotel: kids wrote in journals, played video games, and I closed my eyes. At 5:30 Grady came in the door, dropped his computer bag and we headed heading to the restaurant.



Even though it was only 8:15, we had finished for the day. It took us a while to get used to the 15-hour difference in time.



Everybody gave a single word description about Sydney following the first day: fantastic fun, enjoyable, easy to navigate beautiful, exciting and friendly. We laughed knowing that we had two weeks to explore the city.
