Ryan Reynolds Slams The National League's "BAFFLING" Decision

Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has slammed the National League's recent decision to ignore the possibility of streaming internationally.

In April 2021, the fifth-division side announced plans to launch the world's first streaming service. This was just two months after Reynolds and co-actor Rob McElhenney took over the club.

Now, the Hollywood star has launched an attack on the league's decision not accept the proposal through social media - calling the decision a 'baffling'

Ryan Reynolds, co-owner of Wrexham The Wrexham, has took aim at the National League's recent decision on the internet.

The league opted not to accept an international streaming proposal made by the club

The 45-year-old wrote on Twitter: ' After months of maximum effort, the decision (through inaction of the @Vanarama National League) to not allow domestic/international streaming of matches of Wrexham and the other clubs in the league is truly baffling. @btsport.

"Depriving every league team the chance to increase their fanbase and increase revenue from leagues benefits everyone. This is an opportunity to shine and spotlight and we ask the @TheVanaramaNL to take it. We urge @Vanarama as well as @btsport to assist them in finding the wisdom to take it.'

To increase the international reach of games in the league, he added the official Twitter accounts for each team in the league.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney actors, recently bought the Welsh club called Wrexham AFC.

The club also issued an announcement on Monday night that stated they were disappointed by the National League's decision.

The statement also stated that streaming National League games to all clubs was in the plan for some time, with Wrexham AFC making it a priority in April 2021.

'Streaming games could be financially beneficial for all clubs and significantly increase the visibility of the League by providing the League's Executives a platform on which to advertise the competition, which will generate more central revenue.

'At the start of this season, with the pending launch of the 'Welcome to Wrexham The Club increased its pressure on the National League to secure the support of BT and allow all clubs to stream their games domestically and internationally, considering the provisions of UEFA Article 48.'

Wrexham claim that the request has not been examined by the Board of National League.

It continued: 'Havingn't made any significant progress, on the 23rd August 2022 the Club asked to have the Board of the National League approve an approach to BT, to secure approval for Wrexham to stream the now sold-out game against Gateshead.

'Unbelievably, the request hasn't even even been considered by the Board of the National League yet, never let alone a decision made.

'The Club feels let down and can only assure fans, both new and old that we have done everything we could to provide the chance to watch the game live in both the UK and overseas.

"On Tuesday, there will be at least 39 games accessible to a UK viewer on various platforms and probably more for international markets. It is therefore difficult to comprehend why the National League is reluctant to allow games to be broadcast.

We will continue to push to ensure that all clubs are able to stream games, not only Wrexham AFC.'

The club can expect an increase in their global fan base following the recent release of their documentary that shows the ins and outs of their takeover of the club.

Two years in the making, the fly-on the-wall documentary by the Hollywood pair, entitled 'Welcome to Wrexham", which debuted this week, charts their first steps as the owners of an unofficial fifth division football team.

If everything goes according to the plan If everything goes as planned, Wrexham's National League journey will be an enormous success, especially in America where the co-owners are famous.

McElhenney and Reynolds formed a business partnership before taking over Wrexham more than two years ago.

It was a deal originally controversial however, over time, more fans have embraced the idea of Hollywood A-Listers owning a non-league football team.

Phil Parkinson's team kicked off the season with a win by beating Eastleigh by a score of 2-1 on the first day of the National League season.

They are currently 7th in the National League, having picked three wins in their first five games.
