The four main developers behind Bukkit the most popular set of unofficial modifications for Minecraft servers, have been hired on by Mojang which is the developer of the hugely popular block-world simulator. Mojang announces that Warren Loo, Erik Broes, Nathan Adams and Nathan Gilbert will join the company to improve Bukkit and make it more compatible with the new version of the game, and to enable support other mods for servers in the future.

Loo writes on the official forms that the team will modify the game's API, which means unofficial developers everywhere will be able hook into the game's mechanics much more quickly and easily. Mojang points out that there are a few teams that have developed popular mods for the game including Spout and Forge however, Bukkit is the only one. Bukkit team was selected because they've developed specifically for Minecraft servers. The plan is to get them working on "more than just modding."
Obviously, the gentlemen are extremely excited about joining the Mojang guys. This is what happens when a business that you are working on without charge decides to pay you in real money.
