Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Jerusalem opens Israel's first cycle tunnel.

The Kerem Tunnel is a great place to ride and hike.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bike tunnel, opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.

It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company Chairman, and many cyclists.


Jerusalem was once a popular tourist destination because of its historic past. Elkin said that the present tourism industry is one of Jerusalem's historical treasures and is also a part of modern-day tourism. נווה פריצקי "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is another step in the development of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all kinds of travelers from Israel and around the globe."

Elkin who is in charge of the project in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests millions of dollars in the development of Jerusalem's tourism and also in the development of new tourist attractions and ventures that connect the glory historical past of Jerusalem to its future. Elkin's ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

Elkin said that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the vision of changing the concept for transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The new tunnel that connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join the existing bike paths as well as those that will paved in its areas. The goal is to promote biking within the city's residents and to promote the green movement in the capital."

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to move its main sewer line towards Sorek's purification plant.
