Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Jerusalem's first cycle tunnel has been open in Israel

The Kerem Tunnel allows for a the most unique riding and hiking experience.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest bicycle tunnel, has been constructed as a part of an extensive cycle path that runs through the capital.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated during a celebration on Thursday attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem's rich past was the main reason why it was an extremely popular tourist attraction during the time of its glory. Elkin said that today in addition to its rich history, Jerusalem is also home to modern-day travelers. "The opening of this tunnel is another aspect of the expansion of Jerusalem's city Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for all kinds of audiences in Israel and throughout the world."

The project was financed by the Elkin's Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stressed the fact that "The Kerem Tunnel Project is the central instrument to achieve the vision to redefine the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem." "The tunnel is set to connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will link to the numerous bicycle paths that are already within the city. The paths will be paved in its various neighborhoods. The objective is to encourage cycling among residents of the city.

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently being used as an infrastructure Tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water to Jerusalem via the Mekorot water corporation.

Road construction, installation , and testing of electrical and safety systems are some of the ongoing works to ensure that the tunnel is secure for all seasons.

The Kerem Tunnel allows for access to exclusive recreation areas such as Ein Kerem, a neighborhood which has a Biblical aquarium and zoo, and historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
