The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was opened as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, the capital city.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, and thousands of cyclists.

Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination because of its rich historical. Today, apart from its rich history it also has modern tourism." Elkin said. "The inauguration[of] the tunnel project is another element of the progress of Jerusalem as well as its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for everyone throughout Israel and around the world.

Elkin's ministry, which responsible for the project along alongside Jerusalem Municipality, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in all aspects of Jerusalem's tourism and in creating innovative attractions and ventures, that connect the magnificent historical history of our capital city and its future." I encourage cyclists to take advantage of a a well-maintained, modern cycling route overlooking the unique scenery of Old Jerusalem.

The project was funded by the Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stressed the fact that "The Kerem Tunnel Project is the central instrument to achieve the vision to redefine the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem." "The new tunnel connecting to Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing bicycle paths and the ones that will be paved within its neighborhoods. נווה פריצקי The goal is to encourage cycling within the city's residents and to promote the green movement in the capital."

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 1990s to create the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is now being utilized as an infrastructure tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

Construction of roads, the installation and testing of safety and electrical systems are just some of the ongoing works to make the tunnel safer for all year.
