Sorry, "Fortnite" fans - "Minecraft" continues to dominate the market, just as it has for years. The game has now more than 112 million players every month, "Minecraft" studio head Helen Chiang told Business Insider in a phone interview this week. "Over the past five years since the acquisition, 'Minecraft' has been continuing to grow," she said.
"Minecraft "Minecraft" is one of the rare examples of a game that has "long legs" - it continues to be a huge seller for years - in the industry of video games that is driven by hits where sales charts often look like a hockey stick.

For over 10 years, the popular game "Minecraft" has been a cultural juggernaut.
Despite other big games like "Fortnite", "Roblox" and "Roblox," "Minecraft" is still dominating.
The game has now more than 112 million players each month as of this week.
This is an increase of more than 20 million players since the October 2018 announcement by Microsoft. This is an enormous leap considering that the game has been in existence for over 10 years. This includes players on all gaming consoles, mobile devices, computers, and the education-focused version.
Notably, "Minecraft" isn't free on the numerous platforms it's available on.
The hundreds of millions of new players "Minecraft" added in the past year all bought the game in one form or another, whether it was a direct purchase of a physical copy from the store or as part of Microsoft's well-known Game Pass subscription service or the purchase of digital copies.
Read more about the reasons why there won't be a 'Minecraft 2', according to the people in charge of "Minecraft."
Early success has persisted
Since its beginning the game has been a huge hit. "Minecraft" was an unfinished game developed by Markus "NotchPersson. Persson. It was a simple game with a limited graphic and controls. It was only accessible on PC. It was susceptible to breaking, because it was an unfinished program developed by one person.
Yet, millions of people bought and played the first version of "Minecraft."
When Microsoft bought the game back in 2014 for $2.5 billion, the tech world was shocked and at a loss over the deal.
However, that initial success has remained under Microsoft's watch over the last five years.
"What we find is that it's a game players are always returning to," Helen Chiang, "Minecraft" studio director, told Business Insider in a phone interview this week. It might not be the most well-known, as there are many great games out but it's one that players love to return to.
Why is 'Minecraft" such a huge success?
It's All About Ed
So, why is "Minecraft" so popular?
We're discussing a game that looks like this:
Imagine "Minecraft" as a virtual LEGO.
It's a method of putting pieces together to create something - often amazing somethings - from nothing. "Minecraft" provides infinite building blocks and a blank canvas. it's your responsibility to create something extraordinary or funny, something else using the tools it provides. The tools and the techniques to use them are extremely user-friendly.
