The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique riding experience and hiking experience that should be loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was inaugurated as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, the capital city.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entrance is located within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half an hour away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened at a formal ceremony on Thursday attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

"The inauguration[of] the tunnel project is a different element of the progress of Jerusalem as well as it's transformation into an attractive tourism destination for all throughout Israel and the world.

Elkin's ministry, which was also in charge of the project together with Jerusalem Municipality, declared that his ministry "invests hundreds and millions of shekels annually in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism industry and is involved in developing exciting attractions and ventures that link the amazing historical time of our capital city with the future." I invite cyclists to enjoy the modern, well-maintained cycling route overlooking the unique nature of Old Jerusalem.

נווה פריצקי The project was financed by the Elkin's department and the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin explained that the Kerem Tunnel project is an important tool in realizing the vision to change the way of thinking and transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The new tunnel, which will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing cycle routes within the city as well as those that will be constructed within the diverse neighborhood. It is designed to encourage bicycle riding within the city's residents and also to encourage the green revolution in transportation in Jerusalem."

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate its main sewer line to Sorek's purification plant.

In order to make the tunnel accessible to the general public throughout the year, the works include road construction as well as the installation of blowers.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to many places to relax, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium as well historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
