Minecraft is an area where anything can be done. Because people use it in many different ways, it's one of the best examples of what sandbox gaming could accomplish. Some people use it as a chance to recreate their favourite games, some like to play around with the game's in-game systems to create new games within it, and some simply like to create amazing things.
There are tons of cool, free maps. One of the most interesting is The Mangrove Restoration Project by Everbloom Games. Everbloom Games makes a lot of maps, but this one is much more environmentally friendly. The map asks players to help restore mangrove forests all over the world and to plant new trees.

You have to utilize a monitor to check the CO2 levels as well, and the more you improve the climate of the planet by planting more trees and wildlife, the more wildlife is brought back to the area. The map features a large number of unique wildlife and gorgeous kayaks. It is also focused on how we can positively impact our environment. While it's not the same as actually getting out into the world and doing good, it's a nice way to teach kids about the ways we can do our part and help the planet.
You can download the map, which is known as Rooted Together, right here. It's a big part of the collaboration with The Nature Conservancy Mojang, which has them donating $200,000 and some charity stream coming later in the summer. It's refreshing to see this is more than just an awesome map to play with.
