So what is it that makes Minecraft So Popular?

Sorry, "Fortnite" fans - "Minecraft" continues to quietly dominate, as it has done for a long time. Helen Chiang, the head of the "Minecraft" studios spoke to Business Insider by phone this week. She told us that the game currently has more than 112 million users per month. Chiang claimed that "Minecraft has seen steady growth over the last five years."


- "Minecraft" is one of the rare examples of a game with "long legs" It continues to sell for years - in the video game industry driven by hits where sales charts often look like the shape of a hockey stick.

For more than 10 years, the loved game "Minecraft" has been a cultural juggernaut.



Despite other big games that have swept up millions of players, such as "Fortnite" and "Roblox," "Minecraft" remains the most popular.



The game currently has more than 112 million players every month as of this week.



This is an increase of more than 20 million players since the announcement in October 2018 by Microsoft. This is a significant increase considering that the game has been played for more than 10 years. The figures include players from computer games, game consoles mobile devices, and the education-focused version of the game.



Not surprisingly "Minecraft", while it is free on a variety of platforms, is not free.



The game was purchased by the tens of millions of "Minecraft" players who added the game to their collection in the last year, whether it was purchased directly from the store, or as part of Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service, or even digitally.

Early success has persisted

"What we've found is that it's an experience that people continue to return to," Helen Chiang (Minecraft) Studio head, explained to Business Insider in a telephone interview this week. "It might not always be the one that's in the forefront as there are plenty of amazing games that continue come out but it's one they love to return to."
