Red Dead Online won't get Major Updates since Rockstar Shifts to GTA 6

Rockstar Games has confirmed the doubts of many: Red Dead Online will not receive major content updates going forward. Instead, the company will shift its resources to the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series. It also confirmed more updates and quality of life enhancements are in the pipeline for its popular open-world crime simulator, GTA Online.

Rockstar posted a blog entry today on its official website describing its future plans for Red Dead Online and GTA Online. Rockstar had a lot to say about the upcoming online GTA game, but nothing about its open-world western online. What it did have to say wasn't great, as Rockstar basically announced that the game was put on life support and won't be a priority for the company.



Rockstar expressed gratitude to RDO fans and the RDO community for supporting the game in the last few years. However, it did have some negative news to give to RDO players. Rockstar claims it is "steadily moving additional development resources" towards the next entry in its GTA series, long speculated as GTA 6. It claims it is looking to "exceed the expectations of players" for the time it plays the next game. Resources once dedicated to RDO have been moved to GTA 6.



This lines up with what Kotaku has received from sources about the company dedicating more and more of its resources to the next GTA game up to the point of even dropping plans for future remasters in the process.



Rockstar will continue to host Red Dead Online events for months to come, and plans to add Telegram-based missions.

However, the publisher confirmed that it has no plans to release any more themed content updates for RDO moving forward, like the prior Blood Money or Moonshiners.

It's not the news Red Dead Online players have been hoping for, but it's not surprising either. At this point, a lot of the community have declared the game dead, and some are even planning to have funerals later in the month to beg for the game's absence of updates and lack of support.
