What does it Taste like?

Alex: You have also contributed to an open Marketplace map for Summer's base.



Max Brooks: Yes! The mountain is visible in the map after Guy and Summer have left. In reality, it was a major problem. I was two-thirds halfway through the writing of The Mountain and I sat down to play the game, and the whole Nether was transformed from all the way down! Instead of getting angry, I realized that this was the most important lesson in my life. teamextrememc minecraft server When the world changes, you gotta change along with it.



Alex: Just like The Island, the book is incredibly thorough.



Max Brooks: Research is very important to me in everything I do. I don't write that many books due to the fact that I need to do a lot of research. With something like Minecraft, I live under the fear of someone saying, "That would never happen!" So I played hundreds of hours of Minecraft to make sure the physics of the game are reflected in the book. There are also certain things that happen in Minecraft that you can't think of on your own. My character from The Island shoots his last shot at a creeper, and then hits a bat that happens by. It happened to me when I was playing Minecraft!



Alex: The fun of these books is how they feel real.



Max Brooks: Yeah, and, in all my writing, I'm hoping to establish trust with the reader. I would like them to know that when they read my books they can rely on me to take them on an adventure through a world that I know - that I'm their tour guide.



Alex I really enjoyed your insights into the smell of Minecraft smells like. It was a great perspective Netherrack.



Max Brooks: You know I'm extremely fortunate to have such a great editor, Sarah Peed. She encouraged me to write the first book and asked me what the Island felt like. What are the tastes of things? What does the breeze feel like on your face? What is the grass like under your feet? I wanted the book to feel awe-inspiring, so I thought netherrack should smell sulfurous. It should smell like farts. Yeah, I said it! Night Vision should taste like carrot soda. It should be bubbly, tangy, and have a slight bite on the tongue. I wanted people to feel as if they were there.
