To Survive in The World

You can attempt to survive in a hostile world and create all sorts of things and even build a massive pink woolly castle simply because you want to it.



Minecraft comes in two modes: Creative and Survival. Creative is the mode in which you are given unlimited amounts of each block that you may do with what you want, Survival challenges you to find the resources yourself in an attempts to defeat the monsters that come out at night in the Minecraft world. To survive in this world, you can make anything from minecarts to swords, jukeboxes to bread and this is where the primary problem with Minecraft comes into play.



It is difficult to get completely immersed in a sport that requires you to continuously check the internet for recipes for crafting. There is no guidance in the game. Another issue is the recent developments in potions and enchantments. These seem very tacky and appear to be ineffective and are largely useless. The way that Minecraft functioned prior to the release of full version was that it received regular updates that were free and added new features, usually as suggested by players. mcdev's blog These updates will now be "expansion packs" that can only be purchased with payment, I fear. Many of these updates were not worth the cost for, so should this scenario develop it will likely hinder the game. Another issue is the ending of the game, which seems very unplanned and the difficulty level of the game sparks highly at this point.



But, even if you don't consider these aspects to the game, there are plenty of positives to this game. One of these is the style of graphics used in the game which means that many computers will not struggle to apply textures and allow for a wide range of customizations to the game. This can be seen in the large number of texture packs and mods available for the game. This is a problem because mods can't be used in-game. Players must be able to use technical skills to be able to use them.



It should be noted that there is a multiplayer option to this game. It allows you to join servers with friends ( a program for which can be downloaded from Minecraft's website) and create, mine, and build with your friends. The only way to join a server, however, is to enter your IP address. Although the game saves the server, it's frustrating to not see a list of available servers to join. Some features of the single player game do not function in multiplayer, which can be extremely frustrating for people who want to explore Minecraft's full potential with other players.



To conclude Minecraft is an excellent game with quaint graphics and addictive gameplay, However, the numerous issues it still has make me think it perhaps better off being in beta for a little longer to iron out the kinks and tweak certain features of the game. With these issues in mind, I give Minecraft 7 out of 10. I hope that this review won't be not as relevant in a few months due to any updates.
