Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Jerusalem inaugurates Israel's first cycling tunnel

The Kerem Tunnel is a great place to ride and hike.
As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km away from the Kerem junction.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman and hundreds of cyclists were present at a celebration to inaugurate the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction because of its rich past. Elkin stated that, in addition to its rich history and modern amenities, tourism has also been included in Jerusalem's city. "The opening of the tunnel is an additional element of the progress of Jerusalem and its transformation to an attractive tourism destination for all throughout Israel and around the world.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate its main sewer line to Sorek's purification plant.

Present work includes road construction, installation blowers, and sophisticated security systems to ensure the tunnel is safe to use during the entire year.


The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites - including the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo and aquarium, as well as the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
