Xbox has joined forces with preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) and some British creatives to make a Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. The complex impressive model was commissioned by Xbox UK as part of the National Trust's archaeology festival and encouraged people to build "their own version of the ruin using the foundations."
Grian is a YouTube video maker, made this first build. You can view his work in the video above as well as on YouTube. (opens in new tab) Utilizing historic photos and consulting an expert, and then using Minecraft build expertise with a little artistic license, Grian creates a build that highlights the most fascinating features of Corfe Castle including its historic Octagonal tower and miniature palace, or "Gloriette." Which, as I understand is similar to a medieval kingly version of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done a fantastic job in restoring Corfe Castle to its former splendor. He not only recreated the historical styles of the castle's grounds precisely, but also incorporated his own ideas. We can't wait to see more inspirational designs by more young minds," said Martin Papworth archaeologist with the National Trust.

You can download Corfe's ruins yourself by checking out the Minecraft server corfe.ruinsreimagined.com. The ruin will also be released into a set for Minecraft: Education Edition for use in classrooms. You can find out more on Microsoft's site. (opens in a new tab)
