Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Israel's first cycling tunnel is inaugurated in Jerusalem

It connects Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. נווה פריצקי is located beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman and hundreds of cyclists were present at a celebration to mark the opening of the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once a popular tourist attraction because of its rich history. Elkin stated that today, in addition to its historical treasures the tunnel project incorporates modern-day tourism. "The launch (of the tunnel) is an additional part of the expansion of Jerusalem, and the transformation of Jerusalem into a popular tourist city for all sorts of visitors across Israel as well as around the world."

Elkin who is in charge of the project together with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests millions of dollars in Jerusalem's tourism development and the development of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that connect the glorious past of Jerusalem to the future. I encourage cyclists to join us and take a ride along a modern and well-maintained cycling route that overlooks the special nature of Old Jerusalem."

Around NIS 25 million was earmarked in the project. It was budgeted by Elkin's ministry, the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, and the work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stressed, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for realizing our vision to change the way transportation is conducted in Jerusalem." "The tunnel, which is being constructed to connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join the existing bike paths as well as those that will paved in its areas. The goal is to promote biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green transport revolution in the capital."

נווה פריצקי was excavated in the 1990s to create an important sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. נווה פריצקי is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel which includes the fifth waterline to Jerusalem via the Mekorot water corporation.

Construction of roads, installation, blowers, sophisticated security systems and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the ongoing construction. The tunnel will be safe for public to use throughout the year.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel allows for access to exclusive recreation areas for instance Ein Kerem, a neighborhood which has a Biblical zoo and aquarium as well as historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
