The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding which is enjoyed by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bike tunnel to be constructed in Israel and was inaugurated as a part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, the capital city.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entrance is below Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was officially opened on Thursday by Jerusalem and heritage minister Ze'evElkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon the chairman of Gihon, and hundreds other cyclists were also present.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive city for tourists due to its rich past. Elkin stated that the present as well as its historic treasures, the tunnel project also encompasses modern day tourism. "The opening of this tunnel is a further milestone in the advancement of Jerusalem as a tourist destination for all types of people from Israel and all over the world."

Elkin, whose ministry together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the improvement of the tourism industry in Jerusalem and in the creation of exciting attractions and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city's eternal past to the future of Jerusalem... I encourage cyclists to take advantage of a an attractive, well-maintained cycle route, which overlooks the stunning landscape of Old Jerusalem.

The project was financed by Elkin's ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is a central tool for realizing the goal to alter the notion of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin emphasized. "The tunnel, which will connect to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join existing bike routes in the city as well as those that are paved throughout the city's neighborhoods with the aim of encouraging cycling among its residents and its visitors as well as in promoting the green revolution of transportation in the capital city."

In the 1990s in the 1990s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to relocate the main sewer line of Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now used for infrastructure purposes. It also houses the fifth water line which is operated to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.

Current works include road construction, installation blowers and advanced safety systems to ensure that the tunnel is safe to use all year.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to numerous places to relax, including Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium, and also historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
