Minecraft player's 35-hour gaming marathon By Zoe Kleinman Technology reporter BBC News
12 October 2015
A British man hopes to have broken the record of the world for the longest continuous game of Minecraft.
Joe Kelly from Cheltenham played the game for 35 hours 35 minutes and 35 second and raised over $1800 to fund cancer research.
The current record, 24 hours 10 minutes was set by Martin Fornleitner in Austria in 2011.
Minecraft is about creating structures from blocks, exploring worlds and taking part in battles.
The book has sold for more than 54 million copies around the world.
Microsoft purchased Mojang the company behind it, for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) last year.
Mr Kelly is the owner of a film company and works as a voice actor and voice actor, has been playing since he bought the pre-development version of the game in 2010 but usually only is on the game for a couple of hours a week.
He said to BBC that he could remain awake without caffeine and it wasn't a problem.
"There were no stimulants except for sugar and stubbornness."
Mr. Kelly, who live streamed the entire game via YouTube said that the stunt was a snare on his hands.
"My back and shoulders didn't hurt, nor did my shoulders hurt. The most painful thing was my fingers.
"They hurt so badly just from being glued to the keyboard and mouse for so long.
"Every little break I got I was moving my fingers."
Mr Kelly and his girlfriend, Sarah Vallance, are now working on providing evidence of the feat to Guinness World Records.

But he has no intention to take a break from the game.
"I introduced my girlfriend to Minecraft and we play together," he said.
" It's something we like to do together. I'm not averse to gaming."
