- added the option to hide names that are matched. Some servers send chat messages in non-standard formats. This allows players to conceal chat messages by matching the text of the messages.



- Gives players the ability to disable chatting with certain players, thus hiding any messages received from them. This is accessible via a configurable key binding (default P). - The setting to hide a user's profile is reset every time you re-join a server. The status of a player is listed below their name.

Players who log in with a Microsoft account are now blocked from the game. Account restrictions are now in place.


Accessibility Options screen now contains the option to open a link to Accessibility Guide.


Additional information has been added to the crash log for instances where poor performance causes the server to crash.


- Added "joinedFirstServer" option to options.txt.


New network protocol scheme with a high bit (bit 30) set for snapshots. In cases where the network protocols are supported the protocol version will be incremented by 1 for every snapshot. Full releases can have the same protocol version as the previous full release.


If the client and server versions are incompatible, a message reading "Incompatible version!" Instead of "Client out-of-date!", a message in red will be displayed. or "Server out of date!" in dark red. - When multiplayer is disabled, the message will now read "Multiplayer is disabled. Check your Microsoft account settings. instead of "Multiplayer is disabled. Check your launcher settings.


The splashes associated with Black Lives Matter have been added to splashes.txt. These splashes were added to the game through a launcher update during 1.16.2 but they were not included in splashes.txt. The splashes read: Black lives are important! This was the final version that would be released in 2020. This version was originally scheduled to be released on October 29, 2020. However, it was delayed by 4 days.

- Minecraft 1.16.4 and Minecraft 1.16.5 are network-compatible that is, 1.16.4 servers can host players from 1.16.5.
