Xbox has partnered with the preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) and some British creatives to create an Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. This impressive, intricate model was commissioned by Xbox UK in the National Trust's festival archaeology festival. It encourages people to make their own ruin with the help of foundations.
Grian is a YouTube video maker, made this first build. You can see his work in the video below as well as on YouTube. (opens in a new tab) Based on historical photos and consulting with an expert, and then mixing Minecraft build expertise with a little artistic license, Grian creates a build that highlights the most fascinating aspects of Corfe Castle, like its historical octagonal tower and miniature palace or "Gloriette." As I understand it, is kind of like the medieval kingly version of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done an amazing job restoring Corfe Castle back to its former glory. wicked frise He not only created an exact recreation of the various styles within the castle grounds but he also combined it with his own ideas. We are eager to see more innovative designs by more young minds," said Martin Papworth archaeologist with the National Trust.
You can download Corfe's ruins yourself by checking out the Minecraft server corfe.ruinsreimagined.com. The ruins can be downloaded as a package for Minecraft: Education Edition to be used in classrooms. Microsoft's website contains more information. (opens in new tab)
