On December 23rd, Minecraft fans will get their chance to pick up the DVD version of 2 Player Productions' documentary, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang. This follows its debut on your Xbox 360 this Saturday, the 22nd of December.
The DVD will be on sale through Fangamer for $20, with the first 7,000 copies being packaged in an exclusive "dirt brown" case, and including an reversible cover as well as an entry code for downloading the film in 720p HD. WORLDWIDE - On Sunday, December 23rd at 12:00am EST (9pm PST/11pm GMT/10pm CET) Minecraft: The Story of Mojang will be available for sale worldwide on DVD through Fangamer and digital download and streaming at theminecraftmovie.com, powered by Redux.
Fangamer will offer the DVD copy of the film for $20.00 USD The first 7000 copies will feature a limited-edition custom "dirt brown" DVD case, a reversible cover with unique b-side art and a redemption coupon for a free 720p version of the movie. Redux is a digital content provider, will offer the film as a download-to own option, and streaming on the internet mobile, tablets, and connected TVs for $8.00 USD.
On the 22nd of December at 8:00pm EST (5pm PST/7pm GMT/8pm CET), Minecraft will premiere as a one-time-only live event on Xbox Live in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, France, Finland and Sweden. The movie will be free for all Xbox Live Gold members.
The documentary follows Minecraft creator Markus Persson after his rise to fame in 2011 . It explores the ins and outs of building an online gaming company. Minecraft continues to be a global phenomenon, having sold more than 17.5 million copies around the world.
Minecraft: The Story of Mojang was funded by 3,641 backers via Kickstarter.com and took close to two years to complete. 2 Player Productions decided not to use traditional distribution methods or festival screenings since the film was funded by crowds.
