Minecraft link to the world's largest botnet
Malware that launched the net's biggest ever cyber-attack in the year 2000 had links to Minecraft servers as per the experts who were investigating it.
Security blogger Brian Krebs has spent months investigating the attack which knocked his blog offline.
He claims that the genesis for the Mirai botnet can be traced back to rivalries within the Minecraft community.
His claims are supported by an expert in security, who provided security on the net for Minecraft servers.
Robert Coelho (Vice President of Security ProxyPipe) Robert Coelho (Vice President of Security ProxyPipe) told the BBC that his suspicions about the Mirai code were passed to the FBI who is "actively investigating" the code.
The botnet Mirai was made up of more than 500,000 connected to the internet devices such as webcams and routers.
It was the cause of attacks known as denial-of service (DDoS) that hit web pages with such a large amount of data they fell apart, and were the largest ever.
Reddit, Spotify, and Twitter were among the victims.
"Hundreds of hours"
After the attacks, the person who claimed responsibility, using codename Anna Senpai, posted the source code online, opening the way for copycat attacks.

Later the malware was modified and the malware was used to attack UK internet service providers TalkTalk or the Post Office.
Krebs spent "hundreds of hours" investigating the Mirai botnet attack in September of 2016.
"If you've ever wondered why it appears that so few internet criminals are prosecuted I can tell you that the sheer amount of persistence and investigative resources required to determine who's been responsible for what (and why) in the online era is tremendous," he wrote.
His research led him to the community around Minecraft which is a computer game that is owned by Microsoft where players create their own things using cubic blocks.
It is loved by many, particularly children, and is played by over a million people at any given moment.
According to Mr Krebs the large and successful Minecraft web server with more than 1,000 players logging on each day could earn up to $50,000 (PS40,600) per month, mainly from gamers renting space to create their own Minecraft worlds.
"The first clues to Anna Senpai's identity were not evident until I realized that Mirai was just the latest version of an IoT [internet of thingsbotnet family that has been in development and in broad use for nearly three years," he writes.
The code used in these earlier versions was often used to hack into web servers that host Minecraft, he claims.
ProxyPipe - owned by Mr Coelho was a popular provider of Minecraft servers as clients and in mid-2015 was attacked by a massive attack that was launched by a botnet comprised of IoT devices such as web cameras.
BBC interviewer Mr Coelho said he was sceptical about the attacker and said that "Minecraft is a community that is tight-knit." We know who is talking to whom."
He claimed that the attack was perpetrated by a rival security company that also provided DDoS protection to Minecraft clients.
He claimed that the client and founder of the security company had previously operated a Minecraft web server.
He also claims that the Mirai author - Anna Senpai - contacted him via Skype at the end of September, partially to explain that the attack on his firm was "not personal" but also to brag that he was compensated by the owners of a huge Minecraft server to launch an attack on a rival server.
