I like minecraft, often. It's in need of some tweaks to get me really into minecraft. I'm going to document them as of now:
First, you'll need mcpatcher, so we can make use of HD texture packs and install mods. Get it here: https://github.com/pclewis/mcpatcher/downloads

This should open an easy GUI. We'll get to that in a minute.
Next, we must install the proper mods.

- ModLoader: I don't remember why I have this installed, but I'm guessing it's due to a legitimate reason. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v131-risugamis-mods-preliminary-updates/
So now that you have all appropriate mods downloaded, launch the mcpatcher. And add a bunch of mods (Mods -> Add in the menu). You can point it to your minecraft.jar. It can be found in /.minecraft/binor
Now, ensure only the following modifications are checked, and make sure they appear in this order. To rearrange them, click the arrows on the lower right of the GUI
1. AutoSwitchMod
2. ModLoader
3. OptiFine
4. Custom Colors
5. Blastermusic Random Mobs
6. Connected Textures
7. Better Skies
Click on patch. Mcpatcher is likely to complain, but you can just click yes.
In the end, we require an excellent texture pack. I like this one: http://bdcraft.net/download-purebdcraft-texturepack-for-minecraft, 128 bit. Minecraft isn't able to handle much higher files. Download it and save the .zip to ~/.minecraft/texturepacks. It should now be able to select it in the game's menu.
