If you can see 120 frames per second on your laptop's gaming screen is twice as good as 60 frames-per-second so surely eight times the amount of frames are eight times better, right? This is the reasoning behind the latest super high-refresh rate panels offered on Alienware gaming laptops. The Dell subsidiary is now selling its M17 R5 and x17R2 17-inch laptops sporting new panels, claimed to be the fastest in the market.
The panels are only able to display 1080p resolution at that incredible refresh rate, but it's probably the best option. You'll have to play an application that can produce nearly 500 frames per second for you to experience the benefit - turn off ray-tracing, and opt for Minecraft-grade textures, I suppose. I've seen demos of 120hz screens versus 240hz at trade shows. They were enough to convince me that at the very least some ultra-fast gamers could see a benefit from these screens. What if you could double the speed? It can't improve the actual performance of gaming I'm not convinced even for eSports pros who have Special Eyes. Gaming hardware is known for its extravagant excesses.
