It's likely that Minecraft will meet its August release window on PS4 after it failed the Sony certification tests. This means that it's back to the fixing board of 4J Studios, and the team will need to submit the game for certification before it can be released.
4J has been hard at work fixing bugs and resolving issues throughout the month. This isn't just for the PS4 version as well as for the upcoming Xbox One/Vita releases. We've reached out to the studio to confirm that there is a delay, and whether that'll only affect the PS4 version or other platforms too. All three ports are due to launch this month.
Sony discovered some issues in #MinecraftPS4's final test. 53vv We are working on fixing them, however we need to go through the entire process over again.
- 4J Studios (@4JStudios) August 20, 2014. When they do launch the market, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Mojang's game will retail for $20 on digital storefronts. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will be able upgrade to Xbox One or PS4 for $5. This offer will last at least one year following the release date. The new versions will offer larger worlds and more draw distance than previous console releases.
The Vita version is cross-buy with PS3. This means that users who purchased Minecraft on consoles will receive the handheld version free of charge, while new buyers can play the game on Vita and PS3. The asking price for grinding your pickaxe on Vita as with all other ports is $20.
