Mojang Reassures Minecraft Fans about Microsoft Deal

Mojang reassures Minecraft fans about Microsoft deal

The boss of Minecraft-maker Mojang has assured fans about what will take place when Microsoft übernimms the company.

In the middle of September, Microsoft announced a $2.5bn (PS1.5bn), deal to purchase Mojang.

However, Vu Bui, chief operating officer of Mojang said that there were no plans to alter the game or what people can do with it.

The feedback of players would be crucial to develop the game, he added.

"Nothing's going to change," stated Mr Bui. "We don't have any plans to change and I'm sure I'm not able talk about the issue and I don't know everything, but we're still in the same place, and the game's still there and everything is the same as it was before."

Mojang has always sought to preserve the original impetus that helped to make the game so popular, he stated.

He said, "Maintaining the original culture is a real challenge." It's a society that is respectful of the community and lets them play however they want to in the game.

"It is absolutely our intention and always has been, to keep doing this," he told the BBC in an interview at London's Olympia exhibition center, where he was giving a keynote address at the Brand Licensing Europe trade show.

Although Mr. Bui acknowledged that the deal was not yet in the works however, he stated that Mojang was planning to work closely with its large community of players.

Many players of the block-building game have expressed concern about what might take place once Microsoft has the ultimate say.

Markus Persson (aka Notch), is the Minecraft inventor. He wrote about the reasons he was approaching Microsoft. He stated that it was too much for him to manage and was becoming an unnecessary burden.

He wrote, "I can't take responsibility for something like this," shortly after details of the deal were made public.

"It's not about the money," he added. "It's all about my mental health."

Mr Bui said there would undoubtedly be some changes in the future however, these will be made with the input, feedback and comments of fans.

The current system, in which Minecraft developers communicate the work they are working on before they add it to the game, would continue.

He said, "We don't keep our features secret."

This openness would also operate in the same way as Mojang began to showcase the new titles developers were working on, even although the studio wasn't yet ready to talk specifics, he said.

Mojang would allow players to try out early versions of a title and assist in the development of it, Mr Bui said.

Similar approaches were used with Minecraft. Mojang wanted the same process to be repeated since it was proven to benefit developers while they worked on a project.

It wasn't about trying to replicate the success of Minecraft to make another title that proved just as popular. Bui stated that it was more about trust in the overall approach.

"We believe in this model," he said. "Regardless of their chosen art form, people should invest their time and energy into whatever they believe in, no matter how it turns out.

He said, "That's a noble endeavor."

Mojang also declared that it was an error to try to control the Minecraft community or determine what can be done with it.

Better, he added was to simply move out of the way.

Mr. Bui said that sometimes people are the most imaginative when they are free to do whatever they want. Although you must provide them with some guidelines but they'll be able to come up with better ideas than we could.
