Nick Pope Explains Madness after his Name Trended Worldwide

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope has spoken of the madness after Toon fans took over an online poll that resulted in the England man trending number one in the UK on Twitter.



It all came down to Newcastle fan account Toon Polls who answered an online poll by Burger King asking 'what's better' between gherkins and tomatoes.



The account humorously responded to the tweet "Nick Pope" and started a trend that saw Easyjet, McDonalds and Amazon all tweet the name of the Magpie's summer sign.



In an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year old shared his story of how he was able to spot the bizarre situation and the reasons for his phone being flooded with notifications.

"It was a bizarre situation to land in. I looked at my phone and was forced to blink a couple of times before grabbing myself.' The Magpies stopper said,



"I thought"What's going on? What is happening? My phone didn't stop vibrating. It's not something I am familiar with and isn't something that many people are used to.

Pope joined in the party by tweeting his username, which he trended number ten worldwide



"They were able spread the word and there were a lot around the world. Every time I walked around the corner there was someone else. If it was one of the other guys, I would do the same.'



Pope's name was trending at number one in the UK and ranked 10th worldwide and McDonalds offered a free breakfast to Toon Polls, if the goalkeeper kept his clean sheet against Brighton the next day, something he duly obliged with following Newcastle's goalless draw at The Amex Stadium.

However, he wasn't even the only Nick Pope to attract attention following the poll going viral. The excitement generated by the tweets was also shared by Nick Pope, an Arizona-based UFO expert.
