Young Leaders Day Encourages Students to Pursue their Dreams.

Live a 3D lifestyle. That's the challenge that inspirational New Zealand leaders put to the crowd of more than 22,000 students from the primary and intermediate levels from 147 schools at the National Young Leaders Day (NYLD) held at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau earlier in the day.

Students heard from Laura Langman, a Silver Fern and Northern Mystics player, and Cam Calkoen, an athlete and the founder of the Carabiner Mentoring Programme, as in addition to Jamie Fitzgerald, chief executive at The Mind Lab Frances Valintine and Charlie Laumatia, presenter of Attitude Programmes for Schools.

NYLD events challenge students to live a 3D lifestyle by dreaming, daring, and enhancing their leadership skills.

Annette Fale, manager of NYLD, says that an 3D life is like a movie that explodes onto the screen.

"Dream what your life could be... then follow your dream. Be brave and do the daring and scary things that make life exciting. Find your strengths - there is more to you waiting to be discovered. Nobody can live a successful life without guts, vision and effort," students were taught.

Frances Valintine was the driving factor behind Media Design School. In 2013 she opened The Mind Lab in Newmarket - a facility dedicated to teaching robotics, electronics, programming, film making animation, science technology and animation to children aged 4 to 15 years old.

Frances challenged the leaders of tomorrow to be prepared for a constantly changing future.

"To prepare for the future, you must to be open in your thinking and be curious. This will be your biggest strength not technology, not how well you can play Minecraft but curiosity and exploration," Frances said, as the students took notes in their notebooks.

"Wake up each day and think about how I can improve things.

The day was both inspiring and enjoyable. A performance by The Laughing Samoans, interactive games and 3D video clips were the highlights of the day.

Over 90,000 students from New Zealand have attended a National Young Leaders Day since 2001. Every year, events are held in Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Rotorua, Christchurch and Dunedin.
