Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI (CBSMiami) Although the conflict in Ukraine may seem far off South Floridians continue help those leaving.

Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise funds and coordinate an effort for humanitarian aid.

"Just last night 1,100 were in attendance," said Marsha Jaquays in Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.

She claimed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-ravaged nation. A large portion of them travel through the small country of Moldova that borders Ukraine.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Jaquays explained that Moldova's Jewish community was actually helping those who were crossing the border. They then provided food, shelter, clothes and other clothing.

A large portion of the humanitarian efforts are being conducted from Sunny Isles, South Florida.

"My job is to coordinate all the resources of American society in order to assist this situation in Moldova." We have a whole team of people on the ground in Moldova working hard to set up camps, purchasing food, purchasing all the amenities, organizing buses" Emmanuil Grinshpun, who has been helping to coordinate the aid effort.

The situation is exacerbated by the fact that Moldova is believed as one of the poorest countries on earth. Emmanuil Grinshpun However, the people who are involved in this campaign claim that they will not be stopped by anything.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Grinshpun said, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine cameto visit, we didn't need to think. Emmanuil Grinshpun We started doing it."

"Who was in the Holocaust when the Nazis came in and took over the country? How many people have turned a blind and claimed that it's not their fault and that they're not Jewish and it's not my community, and there's no Europe? It's impossible to repeat the mistakes history has made. There's an old saying: "If it's not now the time, who will it be?" If not me, who will?

They are hosting several local events to help increase awareness and help those in need. http://demo3-ecomm.in.ua/user/Emmanuil.Grinshpuncbns208/ Ukraine refugees. The next event will be in Sunny Isles on March 24. Click Here for details
