MIAMI (CBSMiami ) - Even though the conflict in Ukraine is on the opposite side, South Floridians have come forward to aid those fleeing from the country.
Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping in raising funds and coordinating an effort for humanitarian aid.
"Just last night, 1100 patients arrived," said Marsha Jaquays, with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.
She said that more than two millions of Ukrainian refugees are fleeing war-ravaged Ukraine. Many of them have crossed the border to Moldova the country of a few thousand that shares its borders with Ukraine.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun Jaquays stated, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping get them over the border, and possibly offering food, shelter and clothes."
The majority of humanitarian efforts are being conducted from Sunny Isles, South Florida.
"My job is to collect as many American social resources as possible to address the crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil grinshpun, an aid worker, claimed that there was a full team on the ground helping to coordinate humanitarian efforts in Moldova.
It is also said that Moldova is among the poorest countries in Europe. This makes it even more difficult. However, the people who are part of this project claim that they will not be hindered by any means.
Grinshpun said, "When our brothers from Ukraine came we didn't need to think about it. We just began doing it."
Sentiments echoed by Jaquays.
