The Game Developers Choice Awards

Minecraft is an open-world video game first created by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson and later, published and developed by Mojang. Minecraft's building and creative features allow players to build structures from textured cubes in an artificially generated 3D world. Exploration, resource collection crafting, combat and other activities are all part of the game. There are several game modes available. These include survival mode, in which the player has to gather resources to create the world and maintain their the health of their body, a creative mode which gives players unlimited resources and the ability to fly and an adventure mode where other players make custom maps. A spectator mode lets players to fly around and cut through blocks however, they cannot place blocks in a specific order. The PC version is well-known for its mods by third parties that include new characters, items, and quests.



The beta version was made available to the public on May 17, 2009. After gradual updates the full version was released on November 18, 2011. Nici's blog A version for Android was released a month earlier on October 7, and an iOS version was released on November 17, 2011. The game was released on the Xbox 360 as an Xbox Live Arcade game on May 9 2012 and on the PlayStation 3 on December 17 2013, and on the PlayStation 4 on September 4 2014 The Xbox One on September 4, 2014; the Xbox One the next day and on the PlayStation Vita on October 14, 2014; and on the Wii U on December 17 in 2015. On December 10, 2014 the game was released on the Windows Phone. Windows Phone version was released. [12] All versions Minecraft receive periodic updates, with the console editions being co-developed by 4J Studios.



During the 2011 Game Developers Conference, Minecraft received five awards at the 2011 Game Developers Conference. It was awarded the Game Developers Choice Awards Innovation Award, Best Downloadable Game Award and Best Debut Game Award. From the Independent Games Festival, it received the Audience Award as well as the Seumas McNally grand prize. In 2012, Minecraft was awarded a Golden Joystick Award in the category Best Downloadable Game. Over 70 million copies of Minecraft had been sold by June 2015. This made it the most played PC game and the third most-sold videogame. Microsoft announced on September 15, 2014 that it was buying Mojang along with the rights to Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5billion. The acquisition was completed on November 6 on the 6th of November, 2014.
