The past is gone, and in for the future! Today we're introducing an entirely new name convention (well, it's been a while since we've introduced it) for Minecraft Java Edition. Previously, the last pre-release was, in fact, the release candidate, however, we're making that more transparent by changing the name to be "release candidate". This means that, in the event that there aren't any major issues following this release, no additional changes will be made before the release.
In the context of the complete release In case you've been living under a rock (it's Minecraft, so that's fine) we'll be making available the Nether Update on Tuesday, June 23. It's next week!

Release candidates are available for Minecraft: Java Edition. To install the release candidate, open the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots under the "Installations" tab.
