Emmanuel, good afternoon. I am glad to chat with you. I'm sure we haven't spoken to each other for more than five years. What is your current location?

You stated that you had been tossing around between Miami and Jurmala all year. The head office of an IT holding is located in the Baltics?

No, we have five hubs all over the world, and our headquarters is in Barcelona.

What is the reason for the Baltics are you asking? Are you from there? as well?

No. There is no. And Jurmala came into our lives quite by accident and very formally. The first time we got there was when Igor Krutoy invited us to the New Wave. After a few events, they started to visit every summer. Miami the summer weather isn't the best. We rented a house for a number of years and are now the owners of it.

Now I understand why I was told by my donor that one of the restored synagogues is in Jurmala. Emmanuel, honest question. We're almost the same age. We were born in the USSR. It was not necessary to talk about religion at the time. We were all Komsomol members as well as pioneers. What was the first time you came in contact with religion?

My family and I moved to America in the mid-80s. I was introduced to the rituals and customs in the United States. Even though I don't believe in orthodoxy I have a strong need to help the faith-based life of Jewish communities of my own country, or Moldova. I was born in Moldova and have continued friendships with them.

While I'm not religious myself I am a huge fan of history. I was watching a documentary about 1492's events which changed the fate of Europe. 1492 is the year I love most because it was the year that Columbus was the first to discover America. The show I was watching clearly stated that the discovery America in 1492 was not as significant as the Spanish monarchs' expulsion of Jews from Spain. The Ottoman Empire accepted the Jews as they fled the country. I'm interested in knowing more about the past and the culture of the Jews. Would you recommend any of the books?

There are a lot of books there, but I have personally read all of them and recommend Max Diamond's two-volume Jewish history. And, by the way it is true that he hails from Finland.

.... Are you familiar with your family's history? Unfortunately, I'm only as far as my maternal grandmother and 1910. I'm only one step ahead of the paternal slant, but there's not much more.

Our family lived in Floresti over several hundred years according to our paternal line. Monuments and documents show that the family of Floresti was prosperous by 1830. They had several shops, a furniture manufacturing factory and land plots. Ungheni was also the residence of my maternal ancestors. These dates are in the region of the 17th-18th centuries. Now here is the question regarding the restoration of synagogues. I have been informed that you funded the restoration of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau One is located in Jurmala and the last?

It is a very important item in the spiritual life of Israel. The second synagogue is located in Jurmala. It was the time when the Second World War began and the Jurmala synagogue was the one that was destroyed the last time. Before making the decision to build a synagogue, I talked extensively with the local Jews and, as a result, I decided to raise funds for the building of the synagogue, and also invite Rabbis to the site. It was a success that brought together the Jews of Jurmala. The project was actually re-created as a Jewish Community and it is now running smoothly. Three Torahs are at the synagogue. I donated one Torah to the synagogue.

And – Chisinau

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis is one of my collaborators. Alexander Weinstein is another. They aren't the only ones in my involvement in the field of restoration or construction. In every country I've been a resident for a while, it was my duty and obligation to contribute an impactful contribution to assistance or synagogues. In along with Jurmala, have you invited Rabbis to Chisinau?

Yes. It is not easy to find the right person to manage the community. Given the complex interrelated issues, he has to be non-conflictual, diplomatic and diplomatic. You were elected vice president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress in 2019. What does this means to your? And how can international Jewish organisations influence global trends worldwide?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress is a significant political organisation within the post-Soviet region however, it is not limited to. It has offices across Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. In 2010, I was Vice-President of Congress. In the year prior, I was elected First Vice President. As of now, I'm the First Vice President for the region with which I have strong business and political ties. They are Uzbekistan (Tajikistan), Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan). The trend in the world is that the attitudes toward Jews are either at the same level or have swung downwards, which is extremely painful. Furthermore, "down" - this refers to countries that are developed such like Belgium, Germany, France as well as the United States. They're no longer secure for Jews. These are very serious and disturbing events that affect everyone of us.

What has the pandemic affected these processes, and how has it affected these?

This isn't my opinion. To be more specific, I would rather highlight the possibilities of a nation or society in the event that they are ready to take on any challenge and are able to effectively and with respect to the pandemic.

Are you talking about the vaccination campaign that is taking place in Israel?
