On December 23, Minecraft gamers will have the opportunity to buy a DVD copy of 2 Player Productions' documentary, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang. This comes in the wake of the release of Minecraft The Story of Mojang for Xbox 360 on Saturday, December 22.
Fangamer will sell the DVD for $20. The first 7,000 copies will come wrapped in a customized "dirtbrown" case and will come with the cover that can be reversed as well as a code for a 720p HD free download. You can also stream the film or buy it from the official site. Once you're done go back to playing Minecraft in the proper way - that huge lava tower isn't likely to create itself.
WORLDWIDE - On Sunday, December 23rd at 12:00am EST (9pm PST/11pm GMT/10pm CET) Minecraft: The Story of Mojang will be available for sale worldwide on DVD through Fangamer and digital download and streaming at theminecraftmovie.com, powered by Redux.
Fangamer will sell the DVD version of this film for $20.00 USD. The first 7000 copies will include a limited-edition custom-dirt brown DVD case with a reversible cover that features exclusive artwork on the b-sides and a redemption code that allows you to get a complimentary 720p copy. Digital content provider Redux will offer download-to-own copies of the film as well as streaming across the internet mobile, tablets, and connected TVs for $8.00 USD.
Saturday, December 22nd at 8:00 PM ET (5pm PST/7pm GMT/8pm CT), Minecraft will be streamed live on Xbox Live in the U.S. and U.K. All Xbox Live Gold members will get the film for free cost.
The documentary follows Minecraft creator Markus Persson after his rise to fame in 2011 . It explores the ins and outs of creating an online gaming company. Minecraft remains an incredible success, having sold more than 17.5 million copies sold around the world.
Minecraft: The Story of Mojang was funded by 3,641 backers via Kickstarter.com and took almost two years to complete. Because the film was crowd-funded, 2 Player Productions decided to forgo the traditional distribution methods and screenings at festivals.
