Minecraft is Closing in on 140 Million Monthly Active Users

Hello, here's your semi-frequent reminder that Minecraft is a huge game. Satya Nadella, Microsoft's chief executive officer, revealed that Mojang's build'em up had 140 million active users per month between January 1, through March 31, as part of the company’s most recent financial update. Even so the number of active gamers Minecraft currently has is 30 percent higher than the same period last year.



Nadella also explained that Minecraft creators have earned more than $350 millions from "more than billion downloads of mods and add-ons to Minecraft" This doesn't include activity that isn't part of Microsoft's Marketplace.



While the pandemic could have led to an increase in Minecraft players but there are other factors that are driving interest. Minecraft Last year , we saw Mojang's blocky spin on Diablo, Minecraft Dungeons, and this year, we'll get the Caves and Cliffs update in two parts. Mojang explained that it split the update in two parts to ensure quality, control technical complexity, and ensure that the development team is healthy. Expect to see some new mobs and blocks this summer, and even more complex parts related to world generation during the holiday season.



Microsoft reports that it generated $41.7 billion in revenue last year, which is an increase of 19 percent over the previous year.



"Over an entire year into the pandemic the curves of digital adoption aren't slowing down. They're growing faster, and it's just the beginning," Nadella says.
