Technoblade, Minecraft YouTuber Watched by Millions, Dead At 23

In just under 10 years, Technoblade amassed nearly 11 million YouTube subscribers and 3.7 million Twitter followers after he announced his love for Minecraft, a video game where gamers can create virtual worlds out of blocks and come up with their own storylines. In August 2021, he went public by revealing to his followers that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The news was shared through a video of him playing Minecraft.



According to his father, Technoblade wrote his last message approximately eight hours before he died. In tears, Technoblade's father described his son as "the most amazing child" anyone could ever ask for, adding: "I miss Technoblade."



Technoblade's father broke the devastating news to subscribers on his son's channel.



The video was watched more than 19 million times, closed with the Technoblade family's statement which reads: "This past year had many rough patches for our son, who was fighting cancer of the stage four. He didn't whine, and kept using his famous strategic mind to try to beat what he thought were impossible odds. My son's courage on this path was a shining example to all of us who were privileged to be able to walk with him. Thank you for sharing his journey, as he did the work he loved to do for his beloved fans."



Fans, celebrities and fellow gamers have expressed their condolences via social media.



YouTuber Ted Nivison remembered him as: "Effortlessly funny. Amazingly talented. Gone too soon. Rest easy, Technoblade."

TommyInnit TommyInnit, another YouTube star, wrote on Twitter: "Technoblade, a legendary figure. From being a huge fan, to becoming one of his actual friends, I can't describe how thankful I am to have been in his life. He's making plans in heaven how to defeat God I'm sure of it.



In a statement to CNN, Sarcoma Foundation of America honored Technoblade by expressing "deepest condolences to his family."



Brandi Felser the CEO of the charity, stated in the statement: "Technoblade rallied his supporters to raise over $500,000 in the past to fund the research into sarcoma. This allowed SFA to provide research grants in Technoblade's name. Through these efforts, he leaves a legacy that will impact generations."



Felser said that Technoblade will be honored with the organization's Courage Award, an annual award given to those who inspire others "to bring hope and a better future for the sarcoma community" in the coming year.
