Minecrafter Creates a Giant Halo ring that actually is Spinning

Home News Survival Minecraft Minecrafter creates a huge Halo ring that actually freaking spins

Published by Lauren Morton, 4 January 22.

You'll need to alter it, but you can still download it and play around with it.

A world built of cubes doesn't have the capacity to create circles. Yet ambitious Minecraft players love to defy logic to create stunning round structures. One builder who is a master of defiance has gone further, tossing every rule of the game out the window to construct a ring that rotates. A complete moving Halo ring that includes biomes, beam emitters, and a crashed Pelican. The best part is that you can download and play with the whole thing on your own.

The Minecraft YouTuber known as Reach says that his Halo ring was inspired by a design shared by a different creator. Although this smaller world of rings is impressive however, the comments on the post suggested that it would be even more impressive if it actually worked. Reach tackled the challenge using WorldEdit and Create to create and engineer rings that actually move.

It was a major undertaking. To control the ring's movements it was used the Clockwork Bearing blocks from the Create mod. It was discovered that a single clockwork bearing attached at the edge of the ring's rim could not accomplish the task. He explains that the ring generated by Minecraft was too big to render the first time he tried to make it move.

So Reach decided to divide it into four sections each of which had an axis bearing that rotates and an arm. Reach ended with eight bearings that were that were attached to the four sections of the ring to form spokes. "I thought it wasn't going to work," he tells me, "but my stubbornness and wanting to make something unique for YouTube and my followers was more than enough for me to pull through." What do you think? Holy crap, the thing moves.

If you'd like to see the beauty of a ring world yourself You can download the project over on Planet Minecraft. It's required to run on Minecraft version 1.16 along with a few other mods such as Forge and Create, Flywheel, and some custom Halo textures if you want. Once you are inside, you'll manually start the bearings to get them moving. But once it's down on the ground, it will continue to ticking.

It doesn't whirl around constantly which means you don't be able to keep up with the hamster wheel that spins for a lifetime. The entire ring spins in increments of 30 seconds. It was a good thing, as I found myself feeling a bit disoriented and motion sick exploring it. It'll take me longer to establish my space legs. Reach had to secure each block in order to spin the ring properly, so you won't be able to build or build mine here. It's more of a diorama than an actual playable world, however it's still very cool.

Reach gives more details about his process in the video on YouTube below. He explains the challenges and the design choices that he made to give the rings a Halo style.

God bless the Minecraft builders. They never quit.
