Sony Ericsson will Showcase over 20 new Games that are Optimized For Xperia Play

In our Xperia Play review, we were critical of the inability to find games specifically designed for the handheld's buttons. So it's only fair to mention that a variety of new titles is coming soon -- some classic and some brand new, but all optimized specifically for this type of button-mashing. Headline acts include Minecraft (a port that we've seen before) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have been collecting headshots on iOS devices for some time in the past. For the full list of titles, read the PR after the break. But don't expect any pricing or availability. These details will be revealed at E3 next week, when the Xperia Play will compete for attention alongside the Sony NGP. We'll just be twitching our thumbs until the time comes to twiddle them with vigor.

London, June 2, 2011 - Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Gameloft again to offer an exclusive experience exclusively for its flagship gaming phone Xperia(tm), PLAY. This exclusive experience offers access to Tom Clancy's full-on spy thriller Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard, adapted by Ubisoft. Xperia(tm) PLAY brings high-octane international action games to the Android operating system, making the most of the smartphone’s exceptional graphics capabilities and game-changing pad. The Android version will be available to Xperia(tm), PLAY customers in Western Europe during June and July.



Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, a video game brand based on the Ubisoft video game franchise, is one of the most popular. It's a first-person shooter with a tactical focus that is fun and high-energy. The game is based upon an imaginary international counter-terrorist force called Rainbow. The game is more focused on tactics and stealth rather than the power of fire. Weapons (including assault rifles, high-caliber handguns and uniforms) are selected to match each operative's abilities and mission.

During June and July 2011 consumers across Western Europe who have an Xperia(tm) Play will be able to download a free copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard. Rock it like a hurricane The game will be available on Android only on the Sony Ericsson Xperia(tm) PLAY.



Sony Ericsson also announced 20 new games, 10 of which are exclusive, specifically designed for Xperia(tm), PLAY. A lot of the new games will be on display at E3 the world's biggest games expo, which runs from June 7 to 9.



The new titles offer wide appeal to all users and usage occasions from the most popular and innovative massively multi-player online titles (MMO) to captivating titles and addicting graphically rich new casual content.



Amongst the titles that were announced today is Minecraft(tm) which is the highly anticipated game from the Swedish indie developer Mojang. Minecraft(tm) is one of the fastest-growing game franchises ever with more than eight million registered players to date, and more than 50k new players joining each day.



Sony Ericsson can confirm that new games from the Sony Computer Entertainment stable of classic PlayStation 1 titles will be coming to Xperia(tm) PLAY shortly.



Sony Ericsson's involvement in the Android ecosystem also includes its partnerships with key industry players such as Unity and Havok, with whom it is working to create an ever growing ecosystem. Sony Ericsson is launching a programme to support and find new upcoming innovative developers known as "Stand apart from the crowd", which enables game developers to be part of the Xperia(tm) PLAY story and give their games the recognition they need. Sony Ericsson will attend E3 in Los Angeles from June 7-9 to show off the Xperia(tm) PLAY, other games on booth 713. The new games that were announced today will be released in the next few months. More details about the release date and exclusivity will be revealed during E3 week and closer to the time of launch.
