New Minecraft Skins With Default Minecraft Skins Bring Back Steve's Beard

Mojang has changed the default Minecraft skins, Steve and Alex and Minecraft Steve's beard has come back after years sporting a clean-shaven style. The blue-shirted Minecraft Steve was the original model. However many players thought that it was a smile. It was later removed to make the default character gender-neutral.



Minecraft Alex was released in 2014 as a default skin. Alex has green hair with long red hair and a ponytail. This makes it a more feminine version of Steve's. Helen Chiang, the Microsoft studio head of Minecraft, stated in an interview with the company in 2018 that the company wanted to combat gender stereotypes and present Alex and Steve with similar physical characteristics and abilities.



With two options available to players a decision has been made to bring back Steve's famous goatee. The new skins were praised in an Minecraft subreddit post. They also enhance Alex's shading to give the second model a more natural, 3D appearance. The initial reaction is largely one of celebration and excitement, with many fans especially excited to see Steve's old beard resurfacing.

Many of the commenters have said that they're happy that Steve has returned to the look given in most official artwork, including the character's appearance in Nintendo brawler Super Smash Bros Ultimate. "I can see why they decided to remove it," said the Reddit post with the highest number of votes. "But it was clearly an integral part of Steve's style, which Mojang seems to be in agreement with." It's great to see it back after all these years.



Minecraft lead artist Jasper Boerstra took to Twitter to comment on the change and stated, "I'm happy you like the return of the beard!" Boerstra also notes that classic banding and 'pillow ' shading techniques are utilized in the new skins "to give a little of the OG jankiness," but asks players for their thoughts on whether this choice is an appropriate one or not.
