Live a 3D life. mc name This is the challenge inspirational New Zealand leaders set for the over 2,000 students who participated in the National Young Leaders Day (NYLD) held at the Vodafone Events Centre, Manukau earlier in the day.
Students were able to hear from Laura Langman, a Silver Fern and Northern Mystics player, and Cam Calkoen, an athlete and the founder of the Carabiner Mentoring Programme, as in addition to Jamie Fitzgerald, chief executive at The Mind Lab Frances Valintine and Charlie Laumatia, presenter of Attitude Programmes for Schools.
NYLD events challenge students to live a 3-D life by dreaming, daring and developing their leadership potential.
Annette Fale, manager of NYLD The NYLD manager says that a 3D life is like a movie that explodes onto the screen.
"Dream what your future life could be... then go after that dream. Do the bold and terrifying things that make life interesting. Your strengths are your greatest assets. There is so much more to you than you think. There is no way to live a great life without guts, vision and work," students were taught.
Frances Valintine was the driving factor behind Media Design School. She launched The Mind Lab in Newmarket in 2013 as a facility that teaches robotics as well as filmmaking, electronics programming and science technology to children ranging from 4-15 years.
Frances called on the leaders of tomorrow to be ready for a new world.
"To prepare for the future, you need to open your mind to be curious. It will be your greatest strength, not technology, not how well you play Minecraft but curiosity and exploration," Frances said, as the students wrote notes in their notebooks.
"Wake up each day and think about ways that I can make things better.
The day was not only motivational, but also entertaining. Highlights of the day included performances by the Laughing Samoans, interactive gaming and 3D video clips.
Over 90,000 students from New Zealand have attended a National Young Leaders Day since 2001. Events are held annually in Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Rotorua, Christchurch and Dunedin.
