Like Minecraft Dungeons, Legends is creating new mobs that are compatible with Minecraft.
Magnus Nedfors, Minecraft Legends director of creative, and Dennis Ries, executive producer, sat down at the Xbox booth livestream this week at Gamescom to discuss some details about Legends. They also shared information on new mobs that can be both friend and foe. As with its past games that have been experimenting with genres, Mojang and Blackbird Interactive's coming RTS spinoff is going to make its own mark on the Minecraft world. Dungeons has stepped outside the boundaries of Minecraft lore to create mobs that suit its action RPG world and Legends is following suit.
As we saw in its initial reveal trailer that the main villains of Minecraft Legends are the familiar Nether inhabitants and the Piglins. While we're used to Piglins and Hoglins in Vanilla Minecraft, Legends is adding what Nedfors calls a "Pigmadillo," which crouches down into a cube and contrary to what you'd expect based on the cube's physics it rolls in a way that is offensive to the thing it's attacking. There are also "Bruisers" which Ries says come with two razor blades to wield. Bit horror-esque, innit? The latest trailer for Mojang's film in cinematic form features both mobs.
On the side of friendship, you will find two types of golem joining your ranks: the Cobblestone Golem who is great in destroying enemy structures , and the Plank Golem which Ries calls a ranged unit. You can also utilize speed wheat and a specific mushroom to jump extra high to travel across the globe and unlock new Legends areas.
Minecraft Dungeons also introduced new mobs, such as the Iceologers or Mountaineers. The Iceologers wound up being included in the Minecraft Live 2020 fan vote for which mob to add to Vanilla Minecraft. They lost to Glow Squid, however I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these new Legends baddies given the same chance to achieve Vanilla Minecraft fame.
If you didn't catch it, there's badgers in the beginning of the trailer as well. Project Badger was the codename of Minecraft Legends before it was made public. It could just be a reference to. It may even be granted an official mob status.
