Some people think that playing on a private server "stealing" because you're effectively playing for free. It is easy to obtain the game on P2P sharing networks. However, it might cost bandwidth costs from your ISP. Many players can play WoW for free. Playing on a private server is akin to piracy however, many will argue that Blizzard do not have the right to impose extra monthly costs for the game that is already overpriced.

I disagree. World of Warcraft is unlike any other game, or any other MMORPG. It's a world where even the most hardcore of players are still exploring, and it's constantly updated with new content. This alone is enough to justify the monthly fee. What other game could keep you entertained for months? People will pay up to $60 for an activity that will keep their attention for only one week. After that, they are joined by a growing number of "been there, done that" game boxes.
The only benefit of playing on a private server is the unique experience of playing. You're given god-like status and abilities and are able to level beyond the limit of 70. Unfortunately, the majority of private servers experience serious connection issues, which means you'll either experience a very high latency or remain disconnected from the server. Hardly "fun" if you ask me.
