Now that the dust has settled over Amazon Games' New World the real feelings of people about the new PC game are emerging. Another sign of this sentiment is the change in New World's Steam reviews from mixed to 'Mostly Positive.
Some more recent reviews praise the PvP and the Runescape-like character of the crafting and gathering loop. Some even reviewers compare New World to the early days of World of Warcraft. One reviewer said that this was the most immersive MMO she's ever played. "Very Classic WoW vibe with OSRS capabilities. Level 29 as of 71hrs. Lots of drama in chat because the game is a bit competitive, however PvP can be really fun. Incredible sound design and map. There are a few audio and graphic bugs that pop up occasionally. For the basic version of Amazon's most popular MMO This is a good game. It could be even better with more time.
New World isn’t yet completely out of the woods, however. Some of the most negative reviews focus on what players believe is a lack of story and a world that lacks spirit and excitement and a tedious playing experience for leveling. "New World has some interesting concepts, but it's overall dull and uninspired (yet somehow I'm still playing)", one reviewer concludes.
Even close to two weeks since its release, New World is pulling in a large number of players on Steam. Nine days ago, the game hit the all-time record of 913,634 players and is still hitting the heights of 600,000 concurrents on a 24 hour basis, according to SteamDB.
Naturally, this has caused server issues. Amazon has also added additional server transfers to help alleviate the problem. You'll get one free server transfer this week, which will allow you to reconnect with your friends if you have to travel to another region to play. Keep in mind, though, that New World's server transfers will not allow you to switch regions, after all. Many games like New World thrive better when played with friends. It's a great way to see where things lead.
