Minecraft is such a cultural phenomenon that it was slated to have its own three-day event in September, complete with interactive exhibits co-op and competitive gaming live entertainment, panels, and merch. Tickets for the first ever Minecraft Festival in Orlando will be available this week. ReedPop is the company that also hosts New York Comic Con (NYC) and San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) announced that the convention had been delayed for a whole year due to the coronavirus epidemic. The convention was months away and the virus could be resolved in the near future, the organizers, producers and exhibitors have hit a roadblock when it comes to planning the fest and ensuring a fun experience.
Minecraft Live will continue to be available to gamers. The stream will continue as scheduled and will feature the latest Minecraft news, features, and behind the scenes views of the upcoming projects.
This news comes as no surprise considering the number of conventions and events which have been cancelled or postponed because of coronavirus fears. However, it's odd that ReedPop and Mojang -Minecraft's creator announced the convention less than a week ago, when COVID-19 was in the news. To their credit, though, it was a good decision to pull the event before tickets went to sale and people had booked travel arrangements. A lot of headaches were likely saved by taking action before the event began.
