The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, is constructed as a part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which runs through the capital.

Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 to the project. Work was performed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.


Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a important tool to realize the vision of shifting the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem. Elkin said that the new tunnel connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will join existing bike paths. The tunnel will also be made paved in the various areas. This will help cyclists and promote green transportation in the capital.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate its main sewer line to Sorek's purification plant.
