Neve ParitzkiJerusalem is the site of Israel's first bicycle tunnel

The Kerem Tunnel is a great spot to hike and ride.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle path surrounds Jerusalem.

נווה פריצקי The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company Chairman, as well as thousands of cyclists.

Elkin stated that, today in addition to its historical treasures it also incorporates modern tourists. Elkin who, along with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, said the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the improvement of Jerusalem's tourism in all its aspects and the development of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that link the rich history of our eternal capital to its future... I encourage you to take your bicycles on a scenic, well-maintained route that overlooks Old Jerusalem.

The project was financed by the Elkin's department as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 90s to move a main sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel that includes the fifth waterline that runs to Jerusalem via the Mekorot water corporation.

Current works include road construction, installation blowers, and sophisticated security systems to ensure the tunnel is safe to use all year.

The Kerem Tunnel gives you access to numerous recreational sites, such as Ein Kerem Neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo and Aquarium and also historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh or Ein Laban.
