The capes were previously only available to Minecon attendees, you can now get your very exclusive Minecraft capes. Find out how to get them in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock

How do you get hold of Minecraft capes You might think? You may have heard rumours, whispers of a fabled piece of cloth that graces the shoulders of the most elite Minecraft players. The legends talk of numerous Minecraft capes given to the lucky few throughout the years. Word on the block (sigh) is that capes also modify the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in end ships, as they share the same space on the player's back. It's no surprise that Minecraft capes are extremely sought-after, but they haven't been easy to obtain.

Anyone who attended a Minecon event before Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft capes. Fake root Each year, they received a new colour and design. Even rarer still are the personal capes gifted to lucky individuals in recognition of their achievements, like Reddit user u/billyk_, who was given a personal turtle cape after he suggested that Mojang should include turtles in Minecraft.

If you're not able to think of a concept that is as good as turtles (unlikely) or can time travel back to the past of Minecon It appears that you're not going to obtain any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They're more common in the Bedrock version due to the many skin packs available in the Marketplace. If you'd like to have them free, you can try to make a cape with the help of Minecraft mods, but it'll only be visible to you. There's a currently available Minecraft cape for the Java version, however you'll need to read this article to learn how to obtain it.

Get a Minecraft cape by transferring your account to Minecraft.

In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it is migrating all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a required change and if you don't switch your account over when the time comes and you don't get it, you'll be in a position to play Minecraft unless you use the launcher.

On the plus side, though, once you log into Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll be able to unlock a shiny new cape - and maybe more than that, as Mojang promises players 'more than one outfit to display'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically registered using Microsoft instead of Mojang.

You can learn more about the steps to take by reading this official blog post by Mojang.

How do you activate Minecraft capes

If you own an official Minecraft cape, you can equip it prior to launching an online game. However, your capes Bedrock capes are exclusive to that version. This is also true for any capes that you can earn in Minecraft Java version.

For the Bedrock version, open the app and then click the button to enter the Dressing Room from the main menu. Next, click the tab on the left with a red cape with Mojang's logo. This will show all your capes that are available, so choose one and click equip.

For the Java version, you'll must launch the Launcher and click on Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side of the screen. You will see a number of options that include Skins. To see all your skins, click this link. From here, you can create your own skin or edit an existing one. Under the option to choose a Skin File, you will see all the available caps.

Make a cape using Minecraft mods

What if your avatar needs an outfit and you don't have the money for the cape that is free to migrate? You can create your own cape with mods. Mods like the Advanced Capes Mod make it possible to get any of the most sought-after caps in the game, or any cape that you can think of.

There's a caveat to this that other players you interact with on multiplayer Minecraft servers won't be able to see your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. So the only way to obtain capes that are visible to everyone is to wait for official capes to be gifted to you by Mojang as it migrates your account.

This is everything you must know about buying yourself a cool Minecraft cape If you're looking to complete your ensemble Here are the top Minecraft skins we've found or you can deck yourself out with a complete outfit of Minecraft Netherite armor.
