LONDON 30 June (Reuters) -- American Coco Gaff has made jaws drop with her 122 mph rocket launch and an effort of 124 mph across the net during Wimbledon's second round on Thursday. This was the fastest serve of the women’s tournament so far.
In the face of Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu on Centre Court the 18-year-old tennis star forced her opponent to make an error on the forehand to win the fifth game of the first set with the power serve.
She continued with the speedy 124 mph in the second set, before closing the match 6-2 and 6-3 to set up a third round clash with Amanda Anisimova.
One of the most intimidating servers in the game the 18-year-old Roland Garros finalist unleashed a 121 mph serve in the previous round against Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
With 119 miles per hour, Petra Kvitova was second fastest server in the competition.
The 12th-ranked Gauff made her way onto the world stage at Wimbledon in 2019, when she made it to the fourth round of the grass-court major just 15 years old.
